Western Digital WD Blue SN500 NVMe 500GB

Western Digital (WD) is an example of a good storage manufacturer. Their products are quite popular. Apart from being quality and durable, they also offer many products at quite affordable prices. One example is the Blue SN500 SSD with a 500GB capacity.

How good is the quality? How fast? And, how much does it cost? You will find the answers to these various questions by reading the review of the Western Digital SN500 SSD 500GB below.

WD officially launched an NVMe SSD collection called WD Blue SN500 in May 2019. The WD Blue SSD variant with the M.2 2280 form factor was offered with a SATA interface. So the WD Blue SN500 is the first WD Blue SSD from WD which is equipped with NVMe (Non Volatile Memory Express) technology.

WD Blue SN500 is the entry-level NVMe SSD class market. In terms of design, it appears that the WD Blue SN500 500 GB is equipped with one NAND and controller on one side only. The specifications of the SSD are based on a SanDisk 64-layer 3D NAND TLC chip combined with an in-house Western Digital controller. By utilizing the PCIe Gen 3 x2 interface, the WD Blue SN500 has a sequential read performance of up to 1700 MBps and 1450 MBps for sequential Write.

WD Blue SN500 SSD has two capacity options, 250 GB and 500 GB. The WD Black 500 GB SSD offers endurance of up to 300 TBW. To see the actual performance, we carried out tests using Cyrstal Disk Mark software. The WD SN500 SSD shows quite surprising results from the test results, considering that this component is for the entry-level segment.

Testing using Cyrstal Disk Mark shows that this SSD has a maximum read speed of 1752 Mb/s and a maximum write speed of up to 1464 Mb/s.

We also carried out tests using AS SSD Benchmark software, the scores were quite good as shown in the screenshot below.

Conclusion:
WD Blue SN500 SSD is Affordable Storage with Amazing Performance

WD Blue SN500 Performance could be the best choice for those who want a low-priced PC storage component but offer much better capabilities than a SATA hard disk.

Even though several tests show that the Western Digital SSD is not as good as some of its competitors, the performance shown by the WD SSD can be close to the speed of the Samsung 970 Evo Plus. If you consider the price compared to the Samsung SSD, of course, the WD SSD is quite worth it.
